Lincoln Street Corridor Study

Lincoln Street Corridor Safety Improvements

In 2022, the City of Beatrice completed the Lincoln Street Corridor Study, evaluating transportation safety and mobility along Lincoln Street from 5th Street to 22nd Street. The study identified several recommended improvements intended to enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians, and all roadway users along this important community corridor.

The City is now pursuing federal grant funding to implement the recommended safety improvements identified in the study.

Lincoln Street is a key arterial roadway in the heart of the Beatrice community. The corridor carries nearly 5,000 vehicles per day near the intersection of 6th Street (US Highway 77), providing access to a variety of destinations, including residential neighborhoods, commercial businesses, churches, schools, and the Beatrice State Development Center (BSDC).

Proposed Safety Improvements

The Lincoln Street Corridor Study identified several priority safety improvements, including:

  • Sidewalk and pedestrian accessibility improvements throughout the corridor
  • Removal of the westbound right-turn lane at the intersection of 6th Street and Lincoln Street
  • Realignment of the intersection at 13th Street and Lincoln Street
  • Installation of a roundabout at 19th Street and Lincoln Street

These improvements are intended to improve traffic operations, reduce conflict points, enhance pedestrian safety, and create a safer transportation network for the community.

Community Engagement

Public input played an important role in the development of the corridor study and proposed improvements. The City gathered community feedback through:

  • Two public meetings, held in March and May 2022
  • An online public survey

Community comments and feedback helped shape the recommendations included in the final study.

Safe Streets for All (SS4A)

The Lincoln Street Corridor Safety Improvements project is identified as Priority Project #3 in the City’s Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan. The project supports the City’s ongoing commitment to improving roadway safety, accessibility, and connectivity for all users.
