Project Lifesaver Enrollment

Project Lifesaver

The Beatrice Police Department is proud to launch a nationwide initiative known as Project Lifesaver, a program designed to quickly locate individuals with cognitive conditions who may wander from their homes or caregivers.

Whether someone is living with autism, dementia, Alzheimer’s, or another cognitive impairment, Project Lifesaver offers peace of mind to families and caregivers who worry about the risks of wandering.

How It Works

At the heart of Project Lifesaver is a simple, reliable technology. Individuals enrolled in the program wear a small, lightweight transmitter on their wrist or ankle. This device emits a radio frequency signal that trained officers can track using specialized equipment.

Unlike GPS or cell phone-based systems, Project Lifesaver does not require cell service or satellite connections, making it a dependable option in all types of environments.

Supporting Families Both Near and Far

Families traveling through the Beatrice area can take comfort in knowing that our department is preparing to become fully Project Lifesaver-equipped. If a loved one with cognitive challenges wanders off, they will soon be able to rely on us for a fast and focused response.

Program Status

We are currently in the process of launching the Project Lifesaver program in Beatrice. While we are accepting applications now, we cannot fully activate the program until adequate funding is secured to purchase the necessary equipment and devices.

The early stages of this effort are supported by generous donors, including the Julia Rose Foundation, and we are working hard to build the resources needed to begin active tracking and response operations.
