Trees are an important part of our community. Trees cool the streets and city, conserve energy, prevent soil erosion, provide habitat for wildlife, increase property values, and much more. The City of Beatrice has been designated a Tree City USA for the past 35 years!

The City of Beatrice regulates the planting, trimming, and removal of all trees located on city right-of-way.

Planting Guidelines:

  • A no-cost permit is required prior to planting trees on the City right-of-way. Contact the Community Development Department for a permit.
  • Look up, down, and all around. Trees may not be planted closer than 10 feet to any point on a line on the ground immediately below any overhead utility wire, closer than 5 feet to any underground water line, sewer line, or other utility, or closer than 15 feet to a fire hydrant.
  • Trees may not be planted closer than 15 feet to the back of any curb or closer than 15 feet to the road surface along streets having no curbs.
  • Trees may not be planted closer than 3 feet to the edge of any sidewalk.
  • Trees may not be planted closer than 30 feet from any street corner, measured from the point of the nearest intersection of curbs or curb lines.
  • Trees may not be planted in any alley.
