Emerald Ash Borer

Ash Tree Removal - January 2021

Emerald Ash Borer Information

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has been discovered in the state of Nebraska.  The EAB is a highly-invasive, non-native insect that attacks and kills all species of North American ash trees.  EAB is able to kill all ash trees, regardless of their health, age, or size.  Although the EAB has not been discovered in Gage County, it is only a matter of time.  In an effort to be proactive and to spread our cost over as many years as possible, the City of Beatrice has started to remove ash trees located on City property.  The City will not be treating any ash trees.

As EAB continues to move closer to Beatrice, we have started removing ash tress which are located on City property or in the City right-of-way.  The City will notify you before crews are working in your area. Please keep in mind that the City has roughly five hundred (500) ash trees to deal with, so we may not be in your neighborhood for a couple of years.  Should you choose for the City to remove an ash tree located on your property in the City right-of-way, you must sign a consent form. After work in your area is complete, the City will not return and the opportunity for removal will no longer be available.

If you desire to treat your ash tree, we advise that you conduct some research on the topic or contact the Gage County Extension Office.
