The Citizen’s Academy is designed to foster a better understanding of law enforcement and how Beatrice police officers work with the community to prevent, detect, and deter crime.

The classes provide a way to educate and develop positive relations with citizens. It’s an ongoing process to build community cooperation and understanding.

The academy covers a wide range of instruction and training including:

  • Equipment and uniform requirements
  • Radio procedures
  • Special Services: Investigations, SWAT Team, K9 Unit, School Resource Officer, etc.
  • The court process and role of the County Attorney
  • Probation
  • Traffic stops
  • Shoot/Don’t Shoot scenarios

Who can participate: The Citizen’s Academy is open to anyone 17 years of age (with parental permission) and older. All applicants will be subjected to a background check.

Cost: FREE!

Where: The Citizen’s Academy is held at Beatrice Police Department, 201 N. 5th Street.

When: 2022 classes will be held Monday evenings from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. for 7 consecutive weeks beginning September 12, 2022

How: If interested in applying, complete the online application, or print and complete the printable application and consent for background check. Return it to the lobby of the police department.
