I know this statement doesn’t seem quite right after the weather we have had recently, but things are looking up with a more favorable weather forecast for the next couple of weeks. I don’t know about you but for me, after a couple of weeks of really cold weather that keeps me stuck inside most of the time, sunshine and warmer temperatures get me thinking of working outside and what projects I want to accomplish. Proper planning and preparation make everything go much smoother. If you are planning or thinking ahead to outdoor projects you would like to accomplish this spring such as tree trimming or removal, installing that new fence, a new patio for family barbecues or a storage shed you have been wanting for a while, there are a few things to think about from a safety standpoint.

If you have tree trimming that needs to be done and you like to get right in there and do the work yourself you should inspect the area around the tree. Always look up and check for any overhead utility lines that might be in the vicinity. If there are utility lines nearby, you need to make sure the branches that are going to be cut will not come into contact with these lines. When it comes to trimming trees, cutting branches into small, easy-to-handle sections is always best. If you are doing any work that requires digging, such as installing a fence, patio, or even a garden always remember to call 811 to reach the Diggers Hotline of Nebraska to have any underground utilities marked before you begin. If you are planning to move in or build a storage shed, before you select the location, you should call to have the underground utilities located so the location of your new building will not have any adverse effects on the utilities to your property. Also, remember to look up for any overhead lines that might affect the location you select.

Planning ahead for any project always seems to help things go smoother for me. Hopefully, the few tips suggested here will help with any outdoor projects you might be planning. Hopefully, we all have a great spring season.
