The City Council held a public hearing at their meeting on June 18, 2018, regarding proposed changes to the Zoning Ordinance relating to storage containers.  No action was taken at this time.  The proposed changes can be found here, and will be discussed at a future Council meeting.


The City of Beatrice is initiating a Sidewalk Improvement Program to assist in repairing hazardous sidewalks and provide for the installation of new sidewalks in areas currently without them.  Property owners may submit an application for consideration to the Building Inspections Department. 


The Community Development Department is open Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


To report complaints of trash, weeds, junked motor vehicles, or any other nuisance issues, please contact our office.


The Community Development Department is responsible for ensuring that consistent quality of property and building construciton is completed for the safety of tenants and long-term value to property owners.  The staff reviews building plans and issues building permits, along with performing building inspections.


Inspections can be scheduled by online request here, emailing or calling 402-228-5250.  In order to best serve our customers, inspections are performed Monday thru Friday. Please allow a 4-hour notice for scheduling. To schedule an afternoon inspection, please call before 11:30 a.m.  Please call before 4:00 p.m. to schedule a morning inspection for the following day.


ExceptionsRoofing related inspections will be allowed a two (2) hour notice.  (Every attempt will be made to accommodate all permit holders.)


Final inspections require a minimum of one 48-hours lead time. 


(All inspection scheduling is based upon space available.  Re-inspections are based on space available and may require re-inspection fees paid in advance.)


Contractor Information

The Nebraska Contractor Registration Act requires  contractors and subcontractors doing business in Nebraska to register with the Nebraska Department of Labor.

A contractor is any person who engages in the business of construction and includes subcontrators, general contractors, and any other person arraning for the performance of work on real property.  All contractors with one (1) or more employees must provide a current Workers' Compensation Certificate of Insurance with the Nebraska Department of Labor listed as the certificate holder.
