JOB DESCRIPTION – Operates an automobile in patrolling the City of Beatrice for the prevention of crime and the enforcement of traffic laws, criminal laws, and city ordinances; responds to radio and telephone dispatches and self-initiates crime prevention; responsible for directing traffic, assisting motorist, escorts for parades and funerals, and traffic control at scenes of emergencies; investigates and prepares reports on all accidents, offenses, arrest, and various other incidents; gives directions, makes arrest, issues citations, and gives warnings; intervenes in private or public disputes to protect the public and to maintain order; appears in court to testify; investigates adult and juvenile complaints; performs interviews and interrogations on felony and misdemeanor crimes; and attends training.
The Beatrice Police Department is a modern department that includes; mobile data terminals in all patrol units, digital video recorders in all patrol units, digital cameras, laser and radar equipment, infrared equipment, and various other equipment.
The Beatrice Police Department allows opportunities to focus on specific areas of law enforcement. These areas include; bike patrol, emergency response team, crime scene team, drug investigator, school resource officer, firearms instructors, and various other opportunities.
SALARY AND BENEFITS - Ranges from $16.74 to $23.71 per hour. Group health insurance plan: $20.00 per month for single coverage; and $160.00 per month for family coverage; with a $500.00 deductible per person and a $1000.00 deductible per family. All uniform and equipment is furnished, paid holidays and sick leave, two weeks vacation the first year, retirement plan, paid life insurance plan, tuition reimbursement, in-house wellness center, monthly in-service training, and 12-hour work shifts. Certified candidates are eligible for a lateral pay range at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
