QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and provide a copy of birth certificate.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, exams are required.
  • Must have a current Nebraska Operator’s License
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and provide photocopy of diploma or certificate
  • Must be of good moral character. An extensive background and credit investigation will be conducted.  A polygraph exam is required.
  • Must be a United States citizen
     

HIRING PROCESS

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Current salary for police officers range from $14.82 to $20.17 per hour. 
  • 12-hour shifts, work 7-out-of-14 days, with every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) off.
  • Vacation time    
    • 1-5 years of service, 2 weeks
    • 6-15 years, 3 weeks
    • 16 years or more, 4 weeks
    • Maximum carryover of one year's earnings
  • Overtime pay over 80 hours in a two week period
  • Take overtime in the form of money or compensatory (comp) time
    • Accumulate a maximum of 120 hours of comp time. 
  • Holiday pay for time worked and not worked
  • 10 Holidays include: New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day
  • Sick leave earned at the rate of 10 hours per month with a maximum accrual of 1440 hours
  • State mandated retirement with an employer contribution
  • Excellent health insurance for employees and their dependents.
  • Full-time employees receive a $20,000 term life insurance plan.
  • Uniforms and equipment provided along with an annual uniform allowance for care and maintenance
