Weed Control

The City of Beatrice requires property owners within the City to maintain grass and/or weeds at a height of twelve inches (12") or less.

Any resident may file a long-grass or weed complaint. If a violation is found, the City will send a notice to the property owner. The owner of the said property must remove the nuisance within five (5) days of receipt of the notice. If the nuisance is not removed within five (5) days, the Board of Public Works of the City of Beatrice may cut the weeds, grasses, or worthless vegetation on the said property. The City may also either assess the cost against this property and levy then collect such assessment as other taxes of the City or file a civil action to collect the cost from the property owner. Cost will be assessed at the cost of the City.

In addition, the City of Beatrice may file a criminal complaint against the property owner for violating Section 17-202 of the Beatrice City Code. Conviction of this offense could result in a maximum fine of $500 for each day the violation continues.

If you have any questions or would like to make a complaint, please call (402) 228-5285
